But Who Am I Now?
What happens when the virus isn’t the story anymore?
Let’s start with the obvious: there is no cure for HIV. Yet.
But science is no longer whispering from the back of the lab—it’s speaking clearly, thoughtfully, and showing real progress. Hope is justified, even if certainty is not. And that’s why a once-hypothetical question keeps popping up in community forums, conference rooms, and
late-night group chats:
If there were a cure for HIV tomorrow… would you take it?
The answers aren’t as simple as you might think. Sometimes it’s a
pause. Sometimes it’s “not yet.” Sometimes it’s a quiet, existential “I’m not sure.” Cue the collective clutching of pearls.
